living

THE COMING WAVE

Today’s transportation patterns are changing. 90% of all daily trips are now 8.5 miles or less, while 50% are 3 miles or fewer. At the same time, 53% of millennials want an alternative to their car for going locally. These consumers face rising car ownership costs and price hikes for options like Uber. Light electric vehicles (LEVs) like eBikes and eMopeds are natural alternatives. They are lower cost, healthy, and fun. As automotive prices have risen, so have eBike adoption rates. These trends have fueled the North American eBike market, where unit sales have more than doubled in recent years, and sales revenues are predicted to grow at a 17.3% CAGR by 2030. 

Cycle infrastructure built along main streets and in residential neighborhoods further accelerates the market. Ridership truly booms when people have access to protected bike lanes – by up to 200%. Legacy markets like Austin & San Fransisco are examples of places that have already invested heavily in this infrastructure on the local level. Emerging markets like San Diego & Los Angeles are building this infrastructure from the ground up. They use “Complete Streets” funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to offset high road maintenance costs. Building bike lanes & infrastructure is a required component of these projects.

OFFERINGS

THE PROBLEM

With all the downsides of "normal" biking remaining, mainstream millennials think current eBikes are little more than expensive toys with low-value propositions. 67% think eBikes are impractical and lack the dedicated and safe storage or passenger space they demand from their cars. 96% of them believe eBikes are dangerous when adapted for real-world needs. They say eBikes are unstable when loading or riding slowly with the extra weight of a passenger or cargo – the conditions when most e-bike crashes happen.

Most transportation-focused eBikes force us to limit and adapt behavior around stubborn engineering initially developed for recreational activities like mountain riding or road racing. Too often, manufacturers offer copycat products with little meaningful differentiation. Competing on price alone, we can hardly distinguish one brand or product from the other without logos and brand names plastered everywhere. These eBikes may work well for the needs of a solitary rider with minimal cargo but offer little support for our daily errands and activities.

A sense of connection is essential to our well-being when we think about our home, where we live, and the local places we go. Feeling safe and supported when exploring the world is fundamental to our sense of freedom and possibility. Sharing those experiences with loved ones and creating memories is essential to connecting. These values motivate and inspire our vision, leading us to develop local transportation products that help turn neighborhoods into villages and strangers into friends.

 
 

 

OUR STORY

We find harmony in social life and celebrate the renewal of the community fabric. As a team, we embrace being international citizens. Our founders, Rob and Ben, have a passion for transportation and technology and believe in products of lasting value that improve people’s lives.

Their mission to create better local journey experiences evolved from Rob’s industrial design and branding consultancy into a unique lifestyle brand that values beauty, simplicity, craftsmanship, and humanistic technology that makes life easier.

Their vision was inspired by Rob’s car-free lifestyle in New York City and his ongoing search for thoughtful, low-carbon transportation options that made daily routines, errands, and outings with his wife on an e-bike easier. Disappointed by what he saw, he decided to create that which was missing.
